Bizzare space bar problem

My daughters PC (running XP Home) has developed a most unusual problem in
that every time she presses the space bar the Windows "Search Results"
window pops up. If she closes it and presses the space bar again, it pops up
again. This makes it impossible for her to do her homework etc. Any ideas
would be greatfully appreciated.

First try a different keyboard. If that solves the issue, replace the
original one.
