Birthdays/Anniversaries & Activesync/WMDC

Good evening and thx in advance for all help.

I have sought advice from my mobile provider (TMobile - using the dash
phone) and was told by their 3rd level engineers to ask the Outlook experts.

I am using Office 2003 SP 2. I am currently using Vista Home Premium with
Mobile Device Center but have experienced the same issue since XP Pro SP 2
with Activesync 4.5 and earlier.

I have no duplicate birthdays or anniversaries for my contacts in Outlook.
However when I sync to my cell phone and look at the Calendar on my cell,
several (but far from all) of these recurring birthdays and anniversaries
appear as "John Doe's Birthday/Anniversary (1)." Some say 2, 3, or 4 in the
().

I imagine that the () is due to a duplicate entry at some point, just as if
you tried to copy a file with the same name to the same folder and it would
append a (1) to the end of the file name.

Question is why can I not see this in Outlook on my PC? In Outlook,
everything appears spot on. I have had duplicate entries in the past for one
reason or another but I have long eliminated these. I have also tried
deleting the birthday or anniversary from the Outlook Calendar (deleting the
series) and separately tried deleting it through the Activities Tab in the
Contact itself. Then I go back to the respective fields in the contact and
re-add the dates I need. I think this has resulted in the further
appendages, ie. (2), (3), (4). There are also many of my contacts birthdays
and anniversaries that read correctly on the calendar on my cell, but I
cannot discern a reason, as I know I have tried to force a (1) etc. on
certain contacts unsuccessfully.

Unfortunately this is not an Outlook issue. Synchronization problems are
exclusively within the purview of the synchronization software. If T-mobile
doesn't know how to support that, you might try in an Activsync or Windows
Mobile group.

Outlook's only role in synchronization is to provide a consistent database
and interface to the various synch programs. Any problems that arise with
synchronization are a result of the synch program, not Outlook. There are
newsgroups for both Activsync and Window Mobile on these news servers.

Are you using a news reader? If so, a search for those groups should pull
them right up. If you aren't using a news reader, start using one.

I was going to ask for a free news reader suggestion.

The dash is a smartphone, not a pocket-pc; I don't know if that matters if
you feel the problem lies with the software itself. I just think someone
else would have reported this issue by now, especially if it is sync software
related and multiple peeps should be seeing it.

It's the synch software that matters. So if indeed you are using Activesync
then someone in that group might have seen a similar problem. If it is third
party or proprietary synch software, then support will have to come from
those developers.

There are a host of good, free news readers out there. I've only ever used
Outlook Express. It's not particularly good, but it's free and already on my
hard drive (whether I want it or not).

I have no duplicate birthdays or anniversaries for my contacts

However when I sync to my cell phone and look at the Calendar

appear as "John Doe's Birthday/Anniversary (1)." Some say 2,
3,
or 4
in
the
().

I imagine that the () is due to a duplicate entry at some
point,
just
as
if
you tried to copy a file with the same name to the same folder
and
it
would
append a (1) to the end of the file name.

Question is why can I not see this in Outlook on my PC? In
Outlook,
everything appears spot on. I have had duplicate entries in
the
past
for
one
reason or another but I have long eliminated these. I have
also
tried
deleting the birthday or anniversary from the Outlook Calendar
(deleting

series) and separately tried deleting it through the Activities

So I can continue using Outlook 2003 as I do and also set up OE just for the
newsgroups? If that's right, cool, I will have to get back to my OE. I used
to use newsgroups there many moons ago but also ceased using the program when
I switched to Outlook. The shortcut converted to an Outlook icon when I
installed Office.

Just launch OE from Outlook and it will open in "news only" mode.

Nope. I have MAIL, CALENDAR, CONTACTS, TASKS, NOTES, FOLDER LIST, SHORTCUTS,
JOURNAL, FOLDER in that order.

Then you haven't configured things correctly. To get the News command back,
go back to the Programs tab in Control Panel | Internet Options and change
the default newsreader to Outlook Express. If
OE prompts you to make it your default newsreader the next time you launch
it, clear the "Always perform this check..." box and then click the No
button.

You may need to reset the Menu Bar and/or restart Outlook and/or reboot your
machine in order to complete the process. Not everyone is reporting success
with this method, but try it and see what happens. If all else fails, you
can always create a desktop shortcut to Outlook Express and include the
/outnews switch -- that gives you the same result as accessing the
newsreader via the News command in Outlook.

I have no duplicate birthdays or anniversaries
for
my
contacts
in
Outlook.
However when I sync to my cell phone and look at
the
Calendar
on
my
cell,
several (but far from all) of these recurring
birthdays
and
anniversaries
appear as "John Doe's Birthday/Anniversary (1)."
Some
say
2,
3,
or 4
in
the
().

I imagine that the () is due to a duplicate
entry
at
some
point,
just
as
if
you tried to copy a file with the same name to
the
same
folder
and
it
would
append a (1) to the end of the file name.

Question is why can I not see this in Outlook on
my
PC?
In
Outlook,
everything appears spot on. I have had
duplicate
entries
in
the
