can't enter bios, hitting "escape" at bootup does nothing.
same with "safe mode" hitting F8.

Check the user manual for your motherboard on whether that is the correct
way to access it....

Have you been able to before. Sometimes the bios can be DEL or F2 or F10
depends on your system. F8 should get you to the menu with safemode in the
list.
What type of keyboard do you have, PS2, wireless, USB. The latter two may
explain why as they are not active until windows loads the drivers.

How to get into your BIOS depends, not on Windows, but on what
motherboard/BIOS you have. As a matter of fact, you have to access the BIOS
before Windows even starts to boot. One common way is to press the Del key
when you first power on, but that's not necessarily right for your computer.
Watch the screen carefully when you first boot; there's often a message
there telling you what to do. If not, check your system documentation or
check with your vendor.

Also look here: http://michaelstevenstech.com/bios_manufacturer.htm Or just
try the Del key. There's a good chance that's correct for you.

Sorry Ken, I meant to say DELETE (which always worked before)but that
did no good. BTW I can't enter safe mode pressing F8 either. I suspect
some registry corruption.
Cheers-Herb.

1st try w/a Logitech Cordless, then with a Memorex USB. Neither worked.

I have always been able to before. With an Award 6.00PG Bios I always
used DELETE. Both Bios & Safe Mode worked with a Logitech Cordless KB
before, I switched to a Memeorex USB and had the same problem.
Sorry I didn't mean 'escape' to enter Bios, I meant DELETE.
Cheers-Herb.

No, the registry isn't involved at all. In fact, Windows isn't involved at
all. You have to get into the BIOS before Windows even begins to boot. If
you're pressing the correct key at the correct time and it doesn't work, you
have an issue with the keyboard.

Have you changed keyboards recently? Perhaps from a PS2 type to a USB one?

get a regular PS2 type keyboard, plug it in, enter the bios and turn on legacy usb support.
and make sure you have enabled ALL usb ports.

I changed keyboards, same prob.
BTW, this should have read "delete", not "escape".

"can't enter bios, hitting "escape" at bootup does nothing."

but are you trying with a standad WIRED NON-USB keyboard.

If I could enter the bios, I wouldn't need all that.
