Hola....

I was just wondering if there was a program available (can't find any
through googling) to alter bios settings from within windows.

I've got xp pro, and the bios seems to be currently set to only boot
from the hard-drive. I need to boot from the floppy. It would appear
that USB keyboard support is disabled, as i can't access the bios
using my usb keyboard, and have no other means of accessing it at the
moment.

I've got an MSI motherboard, with via-stuffles in it, and it's AMI
megatrends bios, but i don't think i'm gonna be able to do this
without borrowing a ps/2 keyboard off a friend, am i?

aw...

Sorry, but no. I suggest you get hold of a PS/2 keyboard and use that. I've
got one here I picked up for £2. What are "stuffles"?! Sounds like your
computer has a cold!

Why do you need to boot from floppy? It's rarely necessary; the Windows XP
CD is bootable and contains all the tools necessary to repair any problems
you might be having.

Furthermore, if your drive(s) are NTFS formatted, you won't be able to
access them from a boot floppy.

By the way, you need to fix your clock. You're in the same country as I am
but you're an hour ahead! ;o) I'm sure it's just accidental!

Untrue, my ISP 'NTL' need to fix their clock, it's a server problem... i'm
fat32 on xp, as i find it faster than ntfs. I need to upgrade the bios so
it's compatible with my new graphics card, this requires booting from the
floppy drive.

Stuffles = stuff.

Squishing perspicacia....allllll the dayyyyyyy

Do you have a PS/2 port? If so, there are inexpensive {i.e. very cheap} USB
keyboard to PS/2 adaptors available.

If your BIOS doesn't support USB devices, like the keyboard and mouse on a USB port, then you MUST use a PS/2 attached keyboard to access BIOS. The drivers to support those devices is in the OS but you haven't loaded the OS yet. Even if your BIOS does support USB keyboard and mouse, some require that they be configured to do so but default not to support them, so you're still stuck with using a PS/2 keyboard to get into BIOS to configure the use of USB devices. But since you'll need a PS/2 keyboard to work with the BIOS, why throw away a perfectly good PS/2 port by using a USB keyboard? You will get no improvement in keyboarding performance on USB than you get on PS/2. I've seen PS/2 keyboard selling for $5. How much is your time (and reducing frustration) worth?

If you can get into Windows to run the debug.exe to use its commands to write to the addresses used by the BIOS then why bother? If you can get that far then you can also get into the BIOS screens to make those configuration changes.

Erm, no, it has nothing to do with NTL. An incorrect clock is *YOUR*
problem, not your ISP's. The server will localise the time for the viewer,
so if *YOUR* clock is wrong then *YOUR* posts will be wrong. Suggest you
check to see if the DST box is ticked. It's not "a server problem" it's
yours. NTL's time is correct, as I can tell from your headers!

Unless you have a really crap computer, then NTFS is quicker than FAT32 -
much quicker, and more secure. Suggest you visit the board manufacturer's
site and follow their instructions. And *DO* speak English - "stuffles"
makes you sound about four!
