Hey all...

Just built me a new computer, well i say new, its a cheap computer using mostly bits i had laying around plus some stuff from Flops and a new case and PSU.

It cost me £60 exactly, for the following

Asus A7N266-VM
Duron applebred 1.4 (with a big ass cooler)
256Mb DDR 266
Integ. GeForce 2 32mb
4Gb Quantum Fireball IDE hard drive
16x DVD Rom
350w switching PSU
Tsunami ATX case
Ok so lets cut to the chase...

I cant change ANY of the information about the CPU. Although its working fine, the motherboard recognises the CPU as an Athlon 1600, not a Duron 1400. I also want to overclock the CPU loads if the motherboard lets me, its unlocked.

At this point i tell you i don't have a floppy disc drive

So all you people who were saying they don't need Floppy drives, could you please explain to me how i could possibly update the BIOS for this board please :)

There was actually in the end no need for that because i later found out that the motherboard was compatible with Asus Update.

Friggin BRILLIANT piece of software. I timed it - 3 seconds to update the BIOS and verify it. All within windows.

I put the latest one on, a BETA of 1008. Still over a year old, but i guess thats where they left it.

The CPU is now recognised correctly, but i can't change the FSB still. Is there any software availiable that i can use to overclock at all, or is the motherboard SO rubbish that there is no chance at all ever that i can do anything with it?

Yes. There may be some minor details in Nero 6's layout, but it should be obvious which path to take.
