BIOS "accident"

i accessed the bios to view the boot order and
inadvertantly
changed something so that now when i start windows it
displays windows media edition, instead of windows xp
home, any ides what i may have done or how to fix it.

There is nothing in the bios that would cause that to happen, unless you
are actually booting from a different drive and it happens to have a
different version of windows installed on it.

If that's the case, go back into the bios and change the boot order back
to what it was

If you have several hard drives and you changed the boot
order and you have both Windows XP Home on one and Windows
Media Edition on another, it would change the OS booted..

I am running windows xp home it is the only os on my
computer, and as i reported earlier
after the incident in the bios, my machines systems
configuration utility boot.ini
displays this information, [operating systems] multi(0)
disk(0)rdisk(0)partition(1)WINDOWS="windows xp
media edition" / fastdetect i don't know if this sheds
further light nor needs a response given the information
you have already provided.thanks again, David

did you happen to boot from one of the emergency recovery utility cd's?
I have seen several of those that use the XP Media Edition for their
environment. I don't know why it would have changed your boot.ini file,
but you can change that back with notepad.

right click on your boot.ini file and uncheck the read-only, hidden and
system attributes. Edit the boot.ini file in notepad and replace the
"windows xp media edition" with "Microsoft Windows XP Professional".
Save the file and it should be correct the next time you boot.
However... If some other things got changed, this won't fix that...
This is just a cosmetic change that you could easily change to say
"JimBob's Jumpin System" or any such nonsense...

yeah i think your right the problem seems to be cosmetic

as everything else is working as well as it was.thanks for
