I am trying to create a partition using win98 boot disk.
I ahve 80 GB HD. But when i say create partition, it says
it will use maximum space and create a partition, but its
creating a very small partition. How can I assign the
size myself? Please help.

Are you are trying to install Windows XP after you create the partition? If
so, do not use fdisk. Boot with the WinXP CD and let the setup create the
partition. XP allows you to create partitions and format during setup.

if this is a new drive, and it is making a 2gb partition, then your using a
fat16 boot disk.

if it is making a few mb partition, on an old drive, then it is because you
have a partition there already. backup stuff from it, then delete it, and
reassign it.

If you *must* use a Win98 startup disk and its FDISK then you must reply
Y to the question 'Large Disk Support?' so as to enable FAT 32.
Otherwise you are limited to 2GB for any partition (FAT 16).

Do this *only* if you have special reasons to make the entire disk into
a single partition *and* use FAT 32 for it - which is not generally
advisable. While XP would use it it will not itself make one larger
than 32GBm, and would make the full size into NTFS. To do that go to
Control Panel - Admin Tools - Computer Management, select Disk
Management and look lower right for the graphic of the drive.. R-click
in the 'Unallocated space' and Create Partition
