I have been having some problems connecting to my ADSL Router
Started off randomly disconnecting then reconnecting every morning. Tried to
do various things to fix it. These included trying to reset TCP/IP settings,
and winsock settings. I tried deleting the winsock and winsock2 keys from
registry and restarting. I have tried the same with Tcpip\parameters and
DHCP\parameters.
Through trying to fix my LAN connection now has no IP address and gives
error saying failed to query tcp/ip settings of the connection when repair is
attempted.
ipconfig gives error saying it is unable to query host name.
i have followed process to reinstall TCP/IP settings through network
connection properties, but has had no effect.
MSinfo32 shows that winsock may be corrupted. (As explained by KB article) I
have tried netsh winsock reset. I still only get a couple of headings in the
network. RSVP UDP Service Provider and RSVP TCP Service Provider.
Netdiag can not find TCP/IP Information from the registry.
I can not connect to the internet via a dial-up connection either. Or
connect with a wireless card to my router.
I have not been successful in running System Restore to fix the issue.
I have now uninstalled Norton Internet Security and System Works 2006.
I am running Windows XP SP2 with full updates. Computer is Dell Dimension
8400, Intel P4 3.2Ghz. 1.5GB RAM. NIC is Broadcomm NetXtreme 57xx Gigabit
Controller. The NIC is integrated so cannot be removed.
I have tried unplugging and replugging cables and also tried 2 different
cables
My manufacturer was of no hope.
My next solution will be a reformatting and reinstallation of Windows but i
would like to avoid if possible.
Any help would be great.
Do i need to give any more info?
