Hi all!
I've got a problem to create a vpn connection from my w2k client. In
"Network and Dial-up Connections" i create a new VPN conncetion via the
wizard. But the icon, that will be created has a red X and the staus says
"Unavailable-device missing". When i doubleklick the icon the perefences
opens and the "login" window doesn't appear. When i start the rasphone.exe in
system32 and i try to connect i get error 609 ->"A deviec type was specified
that doesn't exist". Could someone help me, i'm trying to create a vpn over
ethernet, and is it possible to reinstall the RAS thing??

Big thx

Can you check whether the device is recognized and is enabled. Go to
start -> run -> Devmgmt.msc and check whether the ethernet card is enabled.

Thanks

Hi,

Please let me know if these are the steps followed when you are creating the
VPN connection using the wizard
1. Create a new connection, throws up the "New Connection Wizard"
2. Select "Connect to the network at my workplace"
3. Select Virtual Private Network connection
4. Specify the name for the connection
5. IP Address/Host name of the VPN Sever
6. Select Anyone's use or My use only depending on your requirements.

The reason for cross checking this is because the error mentioned by you is
seen in case you try to create a dialup connection and there are not devices
[modems or ISDN cards etc] installed on the system.

Thanks,
Sharoon

Hi,

Open devmgmt.msc,
Select -> View -> Show hidden devices
Check if the WAN Miniport PPTP is enabled in case of a PPTP VPN connection
and WAN Miniport L2TP is enabled in case of a L2TP VPN connection.

Thanks,
Sharoon
