Big non ACPI XP Trouble

Van Someren

Hi,

I've got a major problem. I hope theres someone around that can help me
solve it.

I've had an Dual Athlon MP 1600 on a Asus a7m266-d running for over a year
on ACPI.
But my soundblaster wich i use for MIDI has huge latencies due to ACPI irq
sharing.

Now i turned off the ACPI feature in the install of Windows XP and disabled
it in my bios. I set the value in the XP installation using F5 to MPS
multiprocessor, wich i assume is the best match.

Now when the installation finishes, xp boots and runs nice, but...

My RTL8139 network interface, and my Soundblaster live aint working.

When i check the Device Manager, Xp comes with an error code 35.

Translated the error tells me that the device can not be configured with the
firmware that i'm using.

I allready installed the latest bios (1010) 2 months ago.

When i do the ACPI multiprocessor install everything works fine, except for
my MIDI.

What could be the problem here, i am really desperate and allmost 1 month
behind schedule :)

Please help me out.

regards,

Hi,
Is the NIC right next to AGP slot? If not try it there
or last PCI slot..
I think those two cards are fighting for same IRQ.

Well, Ive tried to replace the card but that didnt work...
After that i was snooping my BIOS and set the plug and play OS to NO. now it
works.
but ofcourse there's still a problem.

When i have my Promise Ultra Tx2/100 and my SB live inserted the Ultra TX2
is not recognized...
the harddisk detection at startup wont show. Promise says that thats an irq
conflict and i should remove a card....

Is there a possibility that i can make that conflict go away...my slot next
to my AGp is still free when all devicees are inserted, so there should be
some IRC space left..

Thanx for your help :)

Very strange problems you have there, given that at least on the dual
boards I've owned all the PCI slots, the AGP slot and the onboard
componentens all had an interrupt line of there own and were assigned
separate IRQs with MPS 1.4 enabled. Maybe you haven't enabled this
option in the BIOS setup? Incidentally, I'm still running with an MPS
HAL here, a relic from the P2L97-DS. The IRQs on my P2B-D are used as
follows:

[less interesting part]
IRQ 0 Systemzeitgeber
IRQ 1 Erweiterte PC/AT-PS/2-Tastatur (101/102 Tasten)
IRQ 3 Kommunikationsanschluss (COM2)
IRQ 4 Kommunikationsanschluss (COM1)
IRQ 5 Analog Devices 1816 Codec (WDM)
IRQ 6 Standard-Diskettenlaufwerkcontroller
IRQ 8 System CMOS/Echtzeituhr
IRQ 9 MPU-401-kompatibles MIDI-Gerät
IRQ 12 A4Tech PS/2 Port Mouse
IRQ 13 Numerischer Coprozessor
IRQ 14 Primärer IDE-Kanal
IRQ 15 Sekundärer IDE-Kanal
[more interesting part]
IRQ 19 Intel(r) 82371AB/EB PCI-zu-USB universeller Hostcontroller
IRQ 40 LSI Logic 8951U/8952U-Adapter; 53C895
IRQ 44 Creative Sound Blaster AudioPCI 128D (WDM)
IRQ 48 3Com 3C905TX-basierter Ethernet-Adapter (Standard) #2
IRQ 128 Rage Fury (Microsoft Corporation)

Maybe you haven't enabled this option in the BIOS setup?

Yes MPS Support and MPS 1.4 ar eenabled in the BIOS.
The funny thing is that only my Promise Ultra tx2/100 seems to have problems
when too much irq's are used!!

Thanx for the info!
