Bidirectional Support

Hello. This is like the 100th question for this printer that I am having such
a difficult time with...If I did not need it so bad, I would take it back!!!

Okay, I have a Lexmark X4270 All-In-One printer and everything works on it
just fine. The fax works, the copier works...and I did a test page and that
also worked. However, I cannnot get communication between the computer and
the printer. The Bidirectional Support option is greyed out, I cannot put a
check next to it. I have tried to install and reinstall several times and I
am using the latest update for the driver. The only thing I can tell you is
that I had my computer repaired and they installed a new motherboard, the
person at the repair center advised me that I cannot use the the ports in the
front anymore or I cannot use the ports in the back anymore...I honestly
cannot remember, but I have tried all the ports available. (USB port) The
printer was up and running at first but I did get a message advising me that
installation was not done properly and there may be some problems (not in
those words but you get my meaning, right) I have since then installed the
software again and did not receive that message any longer. When you have
several USB ports, how can you tell which one you're to have the printer
plugged into?
I have looked at several different websites for help; microsoft, compaq,
lexmark and I did a search on google. I did not receive very much help. I
found one article that MIGHT have helped but it was telling me steps that I
had no clue what they meant...such as, "Open a new package???" How do I get
this printer to work or at least how do I get "Bidirectional Support"
highlighted and able to be checked?
Printer = Lexmark X4270
OS = Windows XP
I'm not sure what other information is needed but I desparately need this
computer if anyone can help.

I recall that bidirectional applies only to parallel ports not USB. Does
your printer have the option of either type connection? Or, perhaps your
printer driver is designed to support Lexmark printers with either
connection.

If Device manager does not show problems with the USB, I would not worry
about which USB entry goes to which physical port.

Likely it is your front ports that are no longer connected to the
motherboard.

I do not know too much about bidirectional support so I'm going to guess you
are right but I have tried the troubleshooting through the help menu and the
printer does not print through communication with the printer. I did the test
and it printed, I did a copy and it printed, and I received a fax and it
printed so I do not know how to fix whatever the problems is with the
printing from computer. Do you have any ideas?
Thanks!
