Better Group Policy Management

Hi,

I set up Windows 2000 servers on a fairly regular basis. These servers are
NOT in domains, but exist on their own, on the LAN.

Does anyone know of a way to print and/or copy Group Policy so I don't have
to reinvent the wheel (and forget settings) each time I set up a server?

Thanks.

GP's are actually files/folders on the server. You could copy them.
Look in C:\WINDOWS\SYSVOL\sysvol\%domain%\Policies

I have a Windows 2000 server. No domain.

There is no Windows directory. But there is a WinNT directory. No sysvol
directory, though. Should I be looking somewhere else?

Thanks.

Hi,

If you don’t have a Domain, then you don’t have Group Policy
installed. What you are talking about is probably the local policies.
However, be careful because any local policies set will affect ALL
users including administrators.

You could look at this article
http://support.microsoft.com/default.aspx?scid=kb;EN-US;q293655

It talks about the location of local settings. Be aware that policies
have settings that are name specific so if you copy, you may have to
still modify any server names.

Cheers,

Lara
