best way to work remotely with ADSL at both ends

I want to be able to access my work LAN from home
remotely (both XP pro)and have ADSL at both locations. I
have used dialup accesss remotly but want to speed things
up. What is my best course of action?

instructions on how to set one up - Forward TCP Port 1723 and enable
PPTP Passthrough/GRE for firewalls/routers on the server end)
