best way to install xp to new drive

currently have 40g drive with non activated xp2. Have purchased 120g drive
and also full install of xp. I want to install 120g drive as master/boot and
use full install xp on new drive. If possible, I want all my files from
original 40g drive; but not the non activated xp2 which is on it. Do
install new drive and set the old 40g as slave or just take the 40 g out of
my computer? Is there an easy way? It's saturday and I want to get the new
drive and new activated xp in my computer. tks for any input.

Disconnect old drive, install new as master.
Install winxp - boot from cd to do so
Once winxp all ok, reconnect old disk as slave

Hi,

......it will not boot from the slave, correct?

That's right, it'll boot from the master as the 40G drive should have
its jumper set for slave. If both your new and old drives have their
jumpers set for CS/cable select, where they are plugged into the cables
and motherboard will determine which tries to boot. It's best to have
each drive plugged into the motherboard in different places too. In that
case they can each be set to master as one will be the primary master
and the other a secondary master.
