Best way to add video in PP 2003

Trying to add short video clips to PP 2003 presentations. All seem to run
nicely inside of PP on new XP Pro machines.
However there are problems when running on both Win2K and XP Home. On Win2K
and XP Home, Windows Media Player slowly comes up and runs the file inside
it but then the player has to be closed. Have tried various combinations
(insert Movie from File, and Insert Object etc.) without complete success.
Some just lock up the machines...
Is there an easy way to add videos to run seamlessly inside PP 2003?

Insert/Movie from File should keep WMP from coming up and running the file
inside it.

Stick to MPEG1 or AVIs with common codecs. See
