Best practices for multiple archive files?

I need to set up a PST archiving system where the archives are split into
several files due to file size issues.

What are the best practices for setting this up? My e-mail is filed in
folders by client/project/etc.

Should I split by time (e.g. a PST for each year)? Or by folders?

Should I do it manually or put my trust in auto-archive?

I will want to search them occasionally, but would be patient enough not to
need them indexed. I have Outlook 2007.

Thanks very much.

Auto-archive should do it. Set the per-folder options: Auto archive this
folder according to these settings" and in "move old items to" choose
different archives.

Thanks, Bill. Two follow-ups (open to all!), if I may:

1. Do new e-mail sub-folders always inherit the per-folder autoarchive
settings of their parent, or the default settings?

2. Is there a way to reset the per-folder autoarchive settings for all child
folders (either to the default or to a revised setting), or do I need to
manually go through and edit them one-by-one if a changes are needed?

Thanks,
Ian

PS Still interested in opinions on splitting autoarchives by time or by
folder(topic).
