Best Laser Printer for Adobe PDF files?

I want to replace my HP LaserJet 5L in my office with a new laser that is
faster, reliable, and, in particular, can do an excellent job printing Adobe
PDF files. I couldn't tell much from the demo printouts in my local Staples.
What Laser Printer would you recommend for under $500? Thanks for the help.

The LJ 2300 can be had for $550-600; a bit more than your target price. It
has PostScript Level 3. PS is well suited for printing PDFs, better than
PCL.

If you don't want to spend this much, you can probably find a model from
another manufacturer in your price range. I mainly know HP. Selling printers
is a very profitable line of business for HP.
