Best Compression for Web Video, from DV-AVI

Hi there

I figured that you guys have good experience in this. How can I compress
AVI's to a small file size for websites? I took DV-AVI, and editited
them into 352X240 clips. Then I made mpeg's (mpeg-1) of them. File size
didn't change too much (i.e a 30 MB AVI is a 29.5 MB MPG).

I tried Windows Media Encoder and the video is jerky NO MATTER how I
adjust the keyframes, frame rate, and buffer, and at the 7, 8, and 9
codecs....

Do you guys have any suggestions? I just would like to keep the file
sizes small, while keeping the video quality high.

Quicktime seems to compress small and play nicely.

I think you're double compressing. Windows Media 7 encodes in MPEG4. Take
your full size edited clips directly into the Windows Media Encoder and see
if the results are any better. Also, in my experience, Windows Media files
play well on PCs but are usually jerky on Macs. Quicktime is more
consistent cross platform.
