Best CD Ripper software

Stephan

I'm looking for the best CD Ripp software. My main goal is to rip my cd's
and put on my mp3 player/hardrive. Then do much more than ripping music,
like editing some music.

Thanks

For ripping, my favorite is CDEX

Exact Audio Copy is the best ripper quality-wise, but CDEx is much simpler
to use, and I recommend them both

the best audio extraction :)

I second that. More often as of late I am getting track error timing
messages while using EAC that CDex does not inform me of. I just re-run the
tracks with the errors and usually they clean up in the second - sometimes
third - pass.

Also, I like to set the EAC output levels to 98% to eliminate the damn
engineered-in clipping that occurs otherwise. First I rip to WAV. Then I
run through SoundForge with their Clipping and Peak restoration plug-in.
Put a 2 second fade-in and out on the track. Do the DC Offset correction.
Reduce the volume a bit and rip out to Mp3 file (which seems to always boost
the audio volume again anyhow), and finally check it for clipping in their
Tools program.

Once done, I then run it through a Tag Editor ("Tag&Rename") and attach the
Paint Shop Pro re-sized cover art (or whatever images I want) to the Mp3
file.

Then I run it through Mp3 Gain set at 93.0 and finally load it onto the
Archos.

Only takes a day or two or three..... ;o)

....but at least it is clip and distortion free, fades-in and out without a
volume bang!, nice even levels (MP3 Gain), and has color artwork pictures
too.

I agree. Since audiograbber became freeware it's replaced cdex and eac
for me except for rare circumstances.

Audiograbber is a beautiful piece of software that grabs digital audio
from cd's. It copies the audio digitally-not through the soundcard-which
enables you to make perfect copies of the originals. It can even perform
a test to see that the copies really are perfect. Audiograbber can also
automatically normalize the music, delete silence from the start and/or
end of tracks, and send them to a variety or external MP3 encoders, such
as Fraunhofers L3enc, or even use some MP3/WMA encoders internally for
automatic creation of MP3's. Audiograbber can download and upload disc
info from freedb, an Internet compact disc database. You can even record
your vinyl LP's or cassette tapes with Audiograbber and make wav's or
MP3's of them. There are a lot more functions in Audiograbber, but to
put it simply: Audiograbber has the most features one can wish from such
a program!

My personal favourite is dBpowerAMP Music Converter. It has a ripper
pretty much like audiograbber, but also has tools for converting
between WMA, OGG, MP3 etc..
