Being Polite

This is the stupidest thread I've seen in a long time. A
person who makes her living with her computer and doesn't
have enough sense to A) control the downloading and
installation of a major OS update, and B) make sure her
system is up to date before it happens. Then she whines
here about how complicated it all is. And the whole thread
starts off with Jeff complaining about harsh responses and
gee-golly, I'd like to buy the world a Coke and why can't
everyone just get along. There are different types of
ignorance--some people lack knowledge because they are
simply incapable of absorbing and retaining it beyond a
certain level, and there are others who are intelligent
enough, but would rather let something crash and burn and
then blame someone else.

Thank you, Kelly:)

Hi Ellen,

You could have ended the process via the Task Manager. For those who do not
wish to have it installed:

Temporarily Disabling Delivery of Windows XP Service Pack 2 through
Windows Update and Automatic Updates
http://www.microsoft.com/technet/prodtechnol/winxppro/mai ntain/sp2aumng.mspx

And how to remove:

How to use the Automatic Recovery feature to recover your computer if the
Windows XP Service Pack 2 Setup program is not completed successfully

Did you find any additional spyware on your system?

Yes, quite a bit:) lol I need to go back and find your
post that mentioned a specific Trojan, I believe. I keep
AVG up-to-date, but Ad Aware found 2 instances of this:
Downloader.realtens.A Haven't done a search for it yet.
are up to date, not by Windows site, but by the hardware
manufacture sites.

I did reinstall my modem driver (that fixed the 28.8kbps
problem) and I installed the updated ATI Radeon driver,
which fixed my terrible lag, but the next day my display
drivers failed completely at a FLASH site. The screen
looked like a mess & from what I could make out, it
looked like I was in safe mode, too. I was frozen, so I
had to shut down illegally. Visited that site again & the
same thing. I don't dare visit that site again, but I'd
like to. It's a virtual building with lots of avatars
moving about & gesturing while chatting. All done in
FLASH, it's my understanding. I thought maybe it was a
memory problem w/SP2. Maybe I'll go there one more time:)

This makes no sense, but only my Adobe Acrobat icons were
shimmering/shaking on my desktop (I had 4-5 Acrobat file
icons. I deleted them.) I still have the glitchy scroll,
though.
not worth downloading, better to get it from the
manufacture.

I get them from the manufacturers sites.
learn computers, some fun books out there, like Windows
for Dummies, etc.

You are correct, unless it's about configuring. For me
anyway.
computer tech/network system admin/MSCE/CCNA. Those
books go right to the core without endless boring pages,
good for those who can`t sleep at night.

I love books. When I bought my first computer (age 41!)
in Nov. 99 it was a top-of-the-line at 850MHZ;) and I
bought $80.00 worth of those kinds of books to go with it
(including Windows for Dummies). It made computing so
much more enjoyable.

Thanks.

You are a top-posting moron. I was the one who informed
the one who was "duped" that he could take the hook out
of his mouth, and so can you.

A classic example of someone letting their so called
intelligence and experience allow themselves to be
condecending and rude, as are much of this persons posts.
experience and knowledge do not make even a decent excuse
for poor manners

Hi Ellen,

What site is crashing your system? Post it and I`ll have
a look at it on both XP SP2 systems and my W2K systems.

I`m glad some things are getting better on your system,
hope everything works out soon.

Jeff

Never fails, posting a message re manners, brings out the
trolls.
TOP posting and or bottom posting is a wasted topic, as is
RE before the subject in replying to a post.

Hi Mike,

We had a 4WD Cherokee for four years, he likes the SSR's, would love to own
a Hummer (what boy wouldn't) but we settled on the GMC Envoy XUV
(SUV/Truck). We are picking it up in the morning. :o)

This is a free newsgroup, and you get free advice here. If some posts
bother you, simply don't read them. You're not paying any money for this
service - So don't whine about it. Don't tell anyone what to do or be,
'cause no one likes whiners - You can't have everything, you know.

Hi everyone.
This is addressed to everyone to reports a problem,
complaints, responds and just smart ass reply.

As I keep reading the News Groups, I have notice more and
more people are starting to use smart ass replies to users
or condensending answers.

Politeness is a sterling virtue, and we need more of it. The only
time I condone a smartass reply is when it contains something
really, really funny.
