BCMv2 and Winfax

When BCM v2 arrived here a couple of months ago I installed it on a fresh
test install of Outlook 2003. The test system is already running Winfax
10.03. Before installing BCM2 the two apps (Outlook 03 and Wfx) worked okay.
No integration; just independently they functioned as expected. After
installing BCM2, Winfax no longer ran. Apparently, at the time this was a
known issue.

Has anyone figured out a way to use Winfax 10.03 while Outlook 2003 with
BCM2 is installed?

Thank you for responding, Diane. No, I uninstalled Winfax partly because
Symantec said this was a known problem and they had no solution. Today they
say they still have no solution.

they probably won't have a solution next year either. <g>

Many times problems are fixed by reinstalling the other app - I had a few
problems with apps that use msde and reinstalling them after BCM fixed it.

Thank you to Diane for her tireless helpfulness (and very readable and
informative books!).

I assembled a solution from bits of info gotten from a tech support call and
a live support chat with Symantec. The key is to avoid all linkage between
Outlook and Winfax. So when installing (or reinstalling) Winfax, select
custom install and uncheck everything that involves email or a shared address
book. Then, once Winfax is installed, go to the Control Panel and select
Mail. In the resulting applet click on the Data Files button and delete
WinFax Fax Logs from the list. Lastly, they advise you to not run both apps
at the same time, and always fully exit and close Winfax when finished with
it. All of this, relevant or not, seems to work.

Thanks for letting us know. That's pretty much the key to making winfax work
with outlook 2002/2003. :) It's nice to know it wasn't another problem that
prevented it from working with BCM.
