BCM Installation Errors

I have been trying to install BCM 2007. I installed Office 2007 with
Outlook 2007 beta without problems. I was able to link OUtlook 2007 to our
Exschange server and view and edit my emails. I then install BCM 2007 beta.
When I go to setup the contact database I get errors saying that "Business
Contact Manager for Outlook could not complete your last action". When I
try to repair or re-install BCM I get another error saying "Business Contact
Manager for Outlook encountered a critical error during startup". I have
tried several times to get BCM working. The machine has Win XP SP2 and
Office 2000. Does anyone have any ideas on what I may be doing wrong?

Steve;

I'm having SIMILAR problems; I've downloaded and re-installed the product
several times. I'm using a 3ghz machine with 1 meg of memory. any ideas?

I found this in a reply to another question and tried it..

Open Outlook. From the Tools menu, select E-mail Accounts. Choose View or
change existing e-mail accounts. Click on New Outlook Data File... select
Business Contact Manager Database from the list and click OK. The program
will create the BCM database. Click Finish. Close Outlook and open it again.
The program will update itself and add Business Tools etc, to the tool bar.

I did get the BCM database working after this. Howver, I continue to get
error messages when I open Outlook and when I open the contact database or
select the Home tab of BCM.

STEVE! it worked! the path and the screens to get there were a little
different that you described; but the outcome was the SAME. THANK YOU! I
don't have a toolbar but I do have an empty database to begin to test out the
fuctionality of the system.
THANKS Again!

Thanks for this tip. It worked for Brian ... .but I tried it and can't get
it to work.

I get all the way to when it starts creating a database ... and then it
stops and says "Database creation was unsuccessful". I actually get to this
same point via a different path --- when I open Outlook and installation of
BCM is started. At that stage I get prompted to create a database (and get
the same error as previously indicated).

Any assistance is appreciated.

Grace

The toolbar should be an Outlook 2003 artifact. With Outlook 2007, the
ribbon should be updated.

Grace; I spoke WAY to soon. The installation DID happen; I selected; Tools,
then
Account Settings, then Data Files, and then NEW and the option to create a
"business contacts database" was available.

After I selected this option; it created a database; and I now have a folder
that says" Business Contact Manager"

HOWEVER... once there in this new folder area; I have tabs for Home; Sales;
Marketing; and Projects (all that I need) however, I also get a constant
error message that states: Business Contact Manager for Outlook could not
complete your last action or actions... Please try again. (OK)

This error repeats over, and over again. and I have to leave the folder.

I now also have BCM tabs in Word and Excel with similar errors. I get the
impression there is something ELSE? I have to do to complete the
installation??

I get the same errors. Even thou the contact database was created, every
time I access it I get the error messages. Also, several contact databases
were created on my machine. It seems when I tried and failed to create the
database originally it was actually created.

I was able to install Outlook 2007 on another machine and I was able to
access the contact database on the first machine. However, when I tried to
connect to the shared database I got similar error messages. Again after
ignoring the error messages I found that that I was connected to the shared
database. The error messages are confusing and do not give me a level of
confidence about using Outlook 2007.

Maybe I need to be a bit more patient with this but, really, I haven't got
time. It's a beta, of course. Still, I expected a lot smoother ride than
this. BCM is not a new product, afterall.

Anyway, I have decided to up and go .... try another software that's been
suggested in one of the postings in this forum.

Good luck to everyone with this product.

Hi, Brian

I picked it up from one of the forums here ... the product is called
MX-Contact and is available at www.exchangewise.com. The Personal edition is
free.

I've just installed it ... but having a bit of a glitch with setting it up.
I suspect something "happened" with my files when I tried to install the BCM
2007 beta and it was not restored to its original state when I removed BCM.
I'm still trying to sort this glitch out with the exchangewise guys.

As it turned out, this company is also here, in Australia :)
