BCM Files Inaccessible

B

Bob Wyatt

I had to reload the system, but I had the 'original' incarnation backed
up...
I reloaded Office 2003, reloaded BCM...
I successfully changed the .pst folder for Outlook to my old one, so all of
my old email is there..

Now I can't get BCM to see my old (original) BCM files..
I restored them to a temporary folder, then tried to copy them over.
This failed because the new version of the files were busy...
I renamed the files and put them in the same directory, but using properties
in BCM, Advanced, the files don;t show up.
I can create a new BCM file set, and it does show up.

How can I get access to these files without losing any information from the
proginal files?

Hi Bob

It sounds like you are referring to the MDF & .LDF Files? If that is the
case, then try this:
Go into BCM and create a new, Blank Database that has the same name that the
..MDF Files originally had. So
if the old MDF files were named "My_Company.mdf", create a new BCM Database
named "My_Company.mdf"
Close Outlook
Go to Start > Run and type "Services.msc" (without the quotes) and click OK
Locate the MSSQL$MICROSOFTSMLBIZ service and stop it
Copy the original files over the new empty database files with the same
name. They should be in this location:
C:\Documents and Settings\<username>\Local Settings\Application
Data\Microsoft\Business Contact Manager

Restart the MSSQL$MICROSOFTSMLBIZ service
Open Outlook/BCM and connect to the database again

Hope this helps!

Larry,

Thank you very much for the information...
This eventually worked...
Once it was done, Outlook reported an error in the pst file, requiring that
I run scanpst.exe.

So this was run, the items it created in the deleted folder were noted and
deleted, and scanpst.exe now runs cleanly.

Now my issue is with contacts or address books...
When creating a new email, if I select To: to search, I get a list of 8
address books, of which only three are valid. So far, the instructions to
clean this up don't work (they don't show up when you select Contacts in the
navigation pane), so I gather I have more work to do.

But alas, it is after 3 A.M., so off to bed I go.

But again, thank you very much for the help!

Bob Wyatt

Hi Bob

Glad to hear that my suggestion worked
In regards to Outlook showing multiple address books when you click the "TO"
Button, there is a setting on a Contact Folders Property Pages that enables
this.

If you Right-Click on a Contacts Folder and Select Properties, on the
Outlook Address Book Tab there is the option to "show this folder as an
E-mail address book". If that is checked, then that Contacts Folder will be
available when you click the "To" button

However, Outlook will show any Contacts folder marked as such, regardless of
where it is in the folder tree or in the profile.

Try CTRL-6 to view your Outlook Folders in Tree/Folder View and see if there
is by chance another Outlook Contacts folder(s) hidden someplace

If that does not help, then perhaps there is a problem with the Outlook
profile or the PST File

Take a look at the following article for more information:

287563 Contact information does not appear in the address book in Outlook
2002 and Outlook 2003
http://support.microsoft.com/default.aspx?scid=kb;EN-US;287563

Hope this helps!
