BCM fails to sync over a VPN

We are having an issue when our remote users are trying to sync their offline/online databses via their windows XP VPN connection.

When they switch to the Online database changes from the offline database are applied Ok but when they try to return to their offline database the "appling changes" dialogue appears and the progress bar continues until about 90% complete.

It then appears to stop and we get a message saying "unknown error has occured please retry operation" If we do re try the same thing happens.

The issue seems to be with the VPN connection as if the users connect via the LAN when visiting the office, offline/online syncing is completed OK.

I have read issues of Timeouts etc but I,m not really sure where to start with changing settings etc.

Any help would be great.
