VPN causes BCM to create new database

When I connect to a BCM db through a VPN, the system seems to think it is a
new db, and runs the initial setup, prompting to create an offline copy, etc.
When in the office, I can connect using the server name (\\server), but I
have to use the ip address when connected thru the vpn. (The VPN is Hamachi,
and the server's ip address is different than when connected locally in the
office.) This causes two databases to exist on the laptop, and defeats the
ability to work offline from a laptop.

Is the VPN the issue? Why does BCM think it is a new db? Would using a
hardware vpn solve the problem?

Thanks in advance,
Dennis

I don't know all the ins and outs of VPNs, but if a server has
different IP addresses, then BCM will consider those to be two
different servers.

I don't use a hardware vpn, yet when logged onto a software vpn, all
machines have the same IP address.

Thanks for the response, Luther.

I was hoping that there was some way for BCM to detect that the databases
were the same, even though the server was being access using a different IP
address.
