Battlefield 2142 problem

I am expericneing a problem with battlefield 2142 which produces the
following error in events viewer

"The description for Event ID ( 0 ) in Source ( ) cannot be found. The
local computer may not have the necessary registry information or message DLL
files to display messages from a remote computer. You may be able to use the
/AUXSOURCE= flag to retrieve this description; see Help and Support for
details. The following information is part of the event: 7."

the game crashes back to the desktop after producing a black screen

i have the latest graphic card and drivers and i have the correct ports open
on my computer

EA games are pretty useless at providng support

Did you find any resolution. Pretty crappy not to get a "Source( )"
to track this bastard down....
I am having the same issue. It started happening in Dec/ early Jan,
but was fine the month previous to that. My specs are (see if we have
any common hardware....):
