Barcoding question(s)

I recently got a DYMO LabelWriter Duo that will allow me to print
barcodes. I would like to barcode my data DVD's and CD's so I can keep
track of what is on them. A friend of mine suggested I use Access to
manage the database, but offered no further assistance. Has anyone
done this? What other software will I need, if any? How hard is it to
set up a database with Access? I have never done this. Basically I'm
looking to set up a database with the information that my DVD's and
CD's contain, link it to the barcode I print; then be able to scan the
barcode to retrieve the information. I'm driving myself bonkers trying
to sort this out myself through Google searches.

Any help is appreciated.

Thanks,

Rogue

There are many low-cost DVD/CD media cataloging software that supports
importing your collection via a barcode reader or by hand. Some even
run on Microsoft Access, so you could look under the hood. Unless you
want the technical experience/education, I don't think there is much
point in whipping something up yourself.

Rouge,
As sun818 said, there may be a "canned" app out there (Access or not) that would handle
this function inexpensively.

If you do want to "grow your own" though, you could build it in Access.
All you need is to download one of several freeware "3 of 9" TrueType fonts available
on the web, and simply use that font on your CD/DVD label report for the barcode
portion... along with any human readable fonts information.
