Bar code scanner

I have a database than I wrote to keep track of an co-operated vending route
and I have. And I have a huge inventory of CD’s that I would like to enter
into my database, can you use a bar code scanner to read the artist name on a
CD. And how would you do this.

There are barcode scanners now that plug into the keyboard port. As far as your
PC is concerned a scanned barcode looks just like someone typing at the keyboard
so nothing special is required in your application at all.

Are you thinking "I see the artist name and album name printed on the
CD (cover): can a barcode reader read that name?"
The answer is no. Barcode readers only read barcodes - the closely
spaced lines you see on groceries and other products. They typically
contain some ID values, rarely human-readable names.

-Tom.
