Bandwith requirement for intersite replication

M

Microsoft

We have Windows 2000 server with AD and have 5 site connect with T1. Each
server has a domain controller with GC. We do intersite replication every 1
hour and add/remove @10 user per day. I was wondering as to how much
bandwidth is utilized for this intersite replication for AD.

Thanks,
Dinesh

Dinesh,

If you have your sites configured correctly and your machines pointing to
DNS servers at their own site for primary DNS, there will be little WAN
traffic generated from your client as part of their associating with the
domain.

With the few changes you are seeing a day and the frequency that you are
replicating, You really won't notice the traffic from Intersite replication.
There are real numbers to be found for this and I would suggest that you
look to the Replication Topology Planning Guides on the MS site.

Also, as you move to 2003, take a look at the ADLB tools for more discreetly
managing replication traffic.
