Banding w/ Canon S750

J

Jeff Heyen

Just recently I've noticed banding in regular print jobs and in photo
printing w/
my Canon S750. What are the typical causes of banding in an inkjet printer?

FYI I've run the clean and deep clean routines in the maintenance section.
Doesn't seem to have made any difference.

TIA,

Jeff

Two types of banding look very different...

Across the page = blocked jets.
Down the page = ink pickup on the exit rollers

The latter are usually due to incompatible paper. eg the ink hasn't dried
enough before it arrives at the rollers.

FYI the type of banding I'm seeing is across the page. Alternating
"stripes" approx.
3/16" wide. If it is blocked jets then it's time for a new print head,
which runs about
$60US. I'm not interested in spending that - I'd rather get a new printer!

If it's blocked jets have you tried the Nozzle check? What does that show?

You said you have tried running the cleaning cycle, so you probably know
that if you do several clean cycles in a row each one gets "deeper", but
that if you run a print cycle in between it restarts with the weakest level.

This page has details...

If all else fails (eg just before you toss it and go buy a new one)....This
site has step by step guide to taking an ordinary 700 apart to clean the
heads.

Now why on earth did I give you Epson links when you have a Canon printer! I
must be getting old in my old age.

If a nozzle check shows all jets are working try an alignment check. (I
think it's possible to do a head alignment check on the Canon 750?). That
can also cause banding.

FWIW I've done what Canon recommends, re cleaning, deep cleaning, nozzle
check,
realignment, etc. The banding even shows up on the alignment page. I
ordered a new
print head today from Canon, should be here in about a week. I thought of
just buying
a new printer, but I like this one well enough that I'm willing to try a new
print head.
