Balloon text comments in Word won't print....

I give up!! I'm using Word 2002 and I have doc that has reviewer
comments in it. I can view the comments in web page layout like I
should, but when I print with the "document showing markup" option all
I get are the deleted balloons. The comment balloons are MIA.

I'm not sure what I'm missing. I've gone through the newsgroups and
it seems everyone else is trying to get rid of the balloons when
printing!! Any help would be greatly appreciated!

If you look at the Print Layout view, are the comments visible in
balloons there?

Hi Cindy,

No. The comment balloons are only visible in Web view which is how I
thought it was supposed to be from the help files that I read. In
Print layout view, deleted text balloons show up in Final Showing
Markup view and inserted text balloons show up in original showing
markup. The only way I can get the comment balloons to show is via
web page view.

Maybe we aren't talking about the same kind of comments... What
command do you use to insert the comments you're talking about?

If you are working in Print Layout and press Ctrl+Shift+M does the
focus shift to some place for you to write a comment? Can you
describe what happens?

Hi Cindy,

I use the the Insert-->Comment option on the Word menu. I'm not
inserting text per se. I'm inserting comments within the text to help
explain certain paragraphs or sentences to the reader. The comments
show up in the reviewing pane as comments (not inserted or deleted
like the other changes).

In print layout mode (final showing markup turned on), I can see and
print deleted text changes with balloons within the doc. With
original showing markup on, I can view and print inserted text changes
with balloons within the doc. The only time I can see my comments in
balloons is in web layout mode (which is consistent with everything
I've read about the track changes features for Word 2002).

My dilemma is that I need to print my doc with the comments showing in
balloons like in web layout view, but Word defaults to print layout
when printing so my only options are printing inserted or deleted
balloon text. So maybe a better question would be...Is there any way
(in print layout) to get the comment balloons to show up or can you
not print comments?

In Word 2002 I saw comments in balloons in both Final Showing Markup and
Original Showing Markup views, so something weird is going on for you.

Thanks Suzanne. There must be a problem with the doc then. That's
fine, I'll find a workaround. Just wanted to make sure I wasn't going
crazy!
