BAD_POOL_HEADER

Guest

I seem to be getting random reboots every few minutes, starting a few days ago

The message last received on the bluescreen reads
BAD_POOL_HEADER, with the stopcode
STOP: 0x00000019 (0x00000020, 0xe168b490, 0xei68b5c0, 0x2c260204)

On former occasions i have been getting various messages, among other
related to
IRQL_NOT_LESS_THAN_OR_EQUAL (I hawe seen Bruce's interesting thread on this,
but mine has got a different code. I'll come up with the other codes later...)

The Crashes started on sunday 15., while playing CIV4. The game was
installed a few days earlier and worked for a few days without any problems
on my brand new DELL laptop with Windows XP Home.

After crashing a few times, I ran a System Restore, and installed the game
again before getting online for the first time downloading updates for XP,
CIV4 and Norton anti virus.

The machine continued crashing every few minutes even though I was just
wandering about in XP's Help and Support Area. Thus it does not seem to be
related to the installed games. The virus explanation also seems to be
excluded by the fact that the crashing started before going online. Other
than that I've got no idea of what is causing it. Could i possibly be
emerging faults in the hardware or windows?
Anyone got a clue or similar experiences?

I have seen the interesting information Maurice reffered to, given on
http://aumha.org/win5/kbestop.htm, but I must admit to be a bit confused by
the related MSDN-article, as I have'nt installed any new hardware nor
Windows2000.

Some more clues are needed.

There will also be Error Reports in Event Viewer. Please post copies.

You can access Event Viewer by selecting Start, Administrative Tools,
Event Viewer. When researching the meaning of the error, information
regarding Event ID, Source and Description are important.

HOW TO: View and Manage Event Logs in Event Viewer in Windows XP
http://support.microsoft.com/default.aspx?scid=kb;en-us;308427&Product=winxp

A tip for posting copies of Error Reports! Run Event Viewer and double
click on the error you want to copy. In the window, which appears is a
button resembling two pages. Double click the button and close Event
Viewer. Now start your message (email) and do a paste into the body of
the message. This will paste the info from the Event Viewer Error Report
complete with links into the message. Make sure this is the first paste
after exiting from Event Viewer.

Hope this helps.

You're diving into a deep and very murky pool!

I didn't locate this link earlier but it makes you wonder how worthwhile
researching the cause of the problem is. Probably simpler to move on
and try another game until the gaming software is debugged.

Thanks Gerry and TaurArian.
I haven't been able to rethreive the Error Reports from Event Wiewer, as the
screen goes blue on me too soon, I'm afraid. Most of the time i'm not even
able to load Windows before it crashes. I'll come up with a few more of the
stopcodes tomorrow.

Interesting information in the page yous sent, TaurArian, and I guess I'll
have to do without the game, all though I'm not sure if it's the game which
is the problem, as both the game and windows crashes with different
error-codes each time.

I'we run a thorough diagnostics without finding any faults.
I've also tried a few system restores, hoping that going all the way back to
the factory setup will help. The machine states, however, that it is not able
to restore. To reinstall Windows XP from a disk is not an option as such was
not provided by DELL.

This ended Wednesday’s attempts. Thursday 19.01.2006 went better, being able
to deinstall all added software through the control panel. Having only
Windows XP with updates and Norton antivirus left on the computer, I tried
checking the event logs, hoping the computer would not crash again.

In the event list in the system configuration area a couple of the events
red that the file system structure on the C-disk is damaged. After running
for a couple of hours the machine went BSOD again with the line
PFN_LIST_CORRUPT

As it keeps crashing after I removed all added software I’m not quite sure
what to do. Any thoughts?

This ended Wednesday’s attempts. Thursday 19.01.2006 went better, being able
to deinstall all added software through the control panel. Having only
Windows XP with updates and Norton antivirus left on the computer, I tried
checking the event logs, hoping the computer would not crash again.

In the event list in the system configuration area a couple of the events
red that the file system structure on the C-disk is damaged. After running
for a couple of hours the machine went BSOD again with the line
PFN_LIST_CORRUPT
*** STOP: 0x0000004E (0x00000099, 0x00000000, 0x00000000, 0x00000000)

As it keeps crashing after I removed all added software I’m not quite sure
what to do. Any thoughts?

Gerry, Have to agree with you there, sometimes it's just not worth it when it
comes to games.

You're diving into a deep and very murky pool!

I didn't locate this link earlier but it makes you wonder how worthwhile
researching the cause of the problem is. Probably simpler to move on
and try another game until the gaming software is debugged.

I seem to be getting random reboots every few minutes, starting a few days
ago

The message last received on the bluescreen reads
BAD_POOL_HEADER, with the stopcode
STOP: 0x00000019 (0x00000020, 0xe168b490, 0xei68b5c0, 0x2c260204)

On former occasions i have been getting various messages, among other
related to
IRQL_NOT_LESS_THAN_OR_EQUAL (I hawe seen Bruce's interesting thread on
this,
but mine has got a different code. I'll come up with the other codes
later...)

The Crashes started on sunday 15., while playing CIV4. The game was
installed a few days earlier and worked for a few days without any
problems
on my brand new DELL laptop with Windows XP Home.

After crashing a few times, I ran a System Restore, and installed the
game
again before getting online for the first time downloading updates for
XP,
CIV4 and Norton anti virus.

The machine continued crashing every few minutes even though I was just
wandering about in XP's Help and Support Area. Thus it does not seem to
be
related to the installed games. The virus explanation also seems to be
excluded by the fact that the crashing started before going online. Other
than that I've got no idea of what is causing it. Could i possibly be
emerging faults in the hardware or windows?
Anyone got a clue or similar experiences?

I have seen the interesting information Maurice reffered to, given on
http://aumha.org/win5/kbestop.htm, but I must admit to be a bit confused
by
the related MSDN-article, as I have'nt installed any new hardware nor
Windows2000.

Uninstall Norton.

Run ALL THREE programs here per directions:

Short URL: http://tinyurl.com/78tgf

Then, perform any remaining/all applicable steps here:
http://basconotw.mvps.org/SymRem.htm

Keep in mind though that it only works on NIS/NAV/NSW 2004
and >. If a user installed any earlier version it won't work.
