Bad ram question

Yes. The RAM count at POST is just that, a count of how much RAM is
there. Even if your motherboard does a RAM test it's just a checksum
test and doesn't test each bit like a thorough test would.

Yes, easily. Especially if it is in multiple modules that are not
matched properly (windows is very fussy on that). Get a tester (free)
at www.memtest86.com
