Bad HP51645 cartridge in HP 970cxi

What could cause the printer to give me the blinking error light when
I have a bad 45 cartridge installed? I put in a new cartridge and
all was well. Now I'd like to know if I could check the resistance
on the pins on the cartridge and determine the problem.

Assuming that some day, the printer will go belly up, I'd like to
double check the cartridge with an ohm meter.

There really is not a practical way for a user to test this. The print
cartridge has a multiplexed addressing where nozzles are addressed in an array
of X and Y control lines. Additionally, there are a pads that are used for
thermal control and other functions. The most common issue is interconnect
pads not making a good connection. You can clean the cartridge pads as shown
at the following:

There are various other electrical issues that can cause a cartridge to be
rejected, but testing for them with an ohmmeter is not practical.
