I just got a Windows XP Home Edition Upgrade disk that I bought from
Amazon.Com. The disk as it came from the sealed plastic container
has a scratch 1/4 in from the edge and 3/4 of the way around. It
could not copy 10 files of the first 30% of files during the first
attempted instal. The seller says to contact Microsoft for a
replacement or bring it to any electronics store for an exchange.
Is this what is done or did I just get screwed?

Suggestions greatly appreciated...

It's doubtful some random electronics store is going to replace something
they didn't sell you in the first place.

Since it's an upgrade, it's got to be retail, so MS should be able to
replace it for you.

Contact Amazon.com and see if they can help you resolve the complaint.

They should be policing the people who sell products through their
site, at least to some extent.

Good luck

I would think it's the retailer's responsibility to replace the damaged
disk. All of the computer / electronic stores I've ever dealt with have
a policy where they will exchange a CD that's defective right out of the
box for a good one.
