Bad Block On RAID 5 Drive

Steve

We have a RAID 5 (3 disks) on a Dell with Win 2K advanced
Server set up. Last friday a block went bad on one of
the hard drives and since then the machine has not been
able to write to it. I cannot access any of my data on
this machine. Is it as simple as replacing the hard
drive then setting up the RAID again? I have not done
any of this before.

If the data is backed up, run chkdsk on the machine in recovery console and
see if chkdsk can mark the block bad and move the data around. If not ,you
should be able to replace the drive and have the controller rebuild the set.
If you have never done it before, I would recommend that you speak with Dell
on their recommendations for your specific controller as you dont want to
reinitialize the drive set.
