I am trying to go from Windows XP backwards to 2000 Server. Can this be done
without having to format my disk?
 
No. You'll have to reformat your drive and perform a
"clean install" of your server operating system.

Good idea, but surely you mean "2000 pro", not "2000 Server"??

As far as I know, you can't do this this without reformatting, but
reformatting is good, it makes everything clean and fast. Just make sure
you back up any data and the user profile first.
