little backwards P in my word document ???

I have been writting my assignment for uni and all of a sudden these little backwards P's fill the spaces every time I click the space bar a full stop apears... What has happened to my word documents I have even opened other word documents done ages ago and these little P are every where .. How do I get rid of them??

It's the paragraph mark.

Depends on your version of word as to where it is.
