We use ARCserve Backup & Restore software on our win2k
advanced server SP4 server. wec conduct a "FULL

BACKUP (CLEAR ARCHIVE BITS)" on every Saturday
& "DIFFERENTIAL BACKUP" on the remaining days.

I ran a test "FULL BACKUP (CLEAR ARCHIVE BITS)" of a
parent folder having 5 Folder 15 files using a HDD

space of 10MB. Then I added 3 folder 8 files into the same
folder & ran a "DIFFERENTIAL BACKUP" of the

same parent folder & the log successfully backed up the
new files & folders. Now I ran a normal restore

& all the 23 files & 8 folders were restored successfully.

then i went into 1 excel file made few changes & i renamed
a document file.

after this i ran a "DIFFERENTIAL BACKUP" of the same
folder. the log says successfully finished backup

operation. now i run a restore & after the restore i find
the files in their original state. the changes

i made to the excel & word document wasnt backedup. i
tried "restore by tree" & also "restore by

session" but i get the same result.

what am i doing wrong here?

how do i get my backup software to record the changes made
on files & folders?

the options on the backup are

1. full backup (keep archive bits)
2. full backup (clear archive bits)
3. increamental backup
4. differential backup

any tips to help me outs folks.

You want to run an incremental backup instead of a differential.

An incremental backup will backup new and changed (since the last full
backup) files.
