Probably because you have the NTFS format. It is completely impossible for
Windows 98 to read and use a NTFS File Formatted hard-drive.

I'm running Fat32 and can't restore. My backups are on
superdisks and saved as .qic format. XP says it doesn't
recognise that format.

No, this isn't at all correct, on several counts.

First, he wants to read his 98 backups in XP. What Windows 98 can
read is irrelevant.

Second, it is *not* true that "it is completely impossible for
Windows 98 to read and use a NTFS File Formatted hard-drive." It
*is* true that Windows 98 doesn't natively provide support for
this, but there is third-party software, such as NTFSDOS, which
can be used to do it.

Third, his problem is that the file format used for Windows 98
backup is not the same as, and is not compatible with, the
Windows XP backup program. However, the full version of Backup My
PC by Stomp can be used to read the backup.
