Backup Utility Problem

R

Raheem

I have tried several times to use the backup utility in XP Pro, but it
fails everytime. I keep getting error messges, and when I open the log,
the errors have to do IE (cannot backup temporary internet files, cannot
back up cookies, etc. I don't use IE.
I'm more than a little locked up about this problem. Since when do I
HAVE to use IE in order to use a necessary utility ??????????????????
Would appreciate any comments. TIA

NTBackup is an old program that is only included for backwards
compatibility. It was designed to work in NT systems with a tape drive.
Find a better, current backup program. A simple one I like for my clients
is Second Copy from www.centered.com. Acronis also makes several excellent
backup solutions.

Nothing. You apparently tried to post entirely on the subject line. Repost
if you want a response. I do not use the NTBackup program personally so
have nothing further to say about it, but others may be able to help you.
Or you could Google for something like "[your-error-message] + NTBackup".

What are these error messages you speak of?

I run the wizard and always get the following;

Backup Status
Operation: Backup
Active backup destination: File
Media name: "Backup.bkf created 8/8/2006 at 4:32 AM"

Error returned while creating the volume shadow copy:80042301
Aborting Backup.

I have tried to manipulate the settings, but I always get the same error
messages. I would like to use the native backup program if possible.
Running XP Pro.

See the links returned by this Google search for your error:

"Native" doesn't necessarily mean "better".

Agreed on the "native" program. However, for now, it's better than
nothing. Anyway, followed your url. The problem was that the "com+"
services were turned off by a "What services do you actually need" program.
Turned the "com+" services (two) back on and "Backup" works perfectly.
Thanks for the help !!!!!!!!!
