Backup utility in XP Pro

When I use the backup utility in XP Pro and try to backup
My Documents folder to a second external HD it will only
backup the folder structure but not any files. I checked
this when I saw how small the file size was of the backup
file. I then opened the backup file and simulated a
restore to an alternate location. The backup utility
showed me "No entries" and the restore only restored the
folder structure but no files. Can someone explain this
to me? Thanks

Did you check the drive on the left pane ?? When you check
say c:\ you will see check marks on things in the right
side files, other wise your just doing the system state.

If you check "My Documents" in the right pane then click
on it to expand, are the files checked ?? then the drive
will be too in the left pane.

I did check the right pane and there are no actual files
included and yes the check marks are there. The thing
that gets me is that the file size of the backup file is
significantly smaller than the folder that I am trying to
backup. Based on the filesize alone I can determine that
the actual files do not get backed up by the application.
I don't know what to do anymore, maybe I need to buy me a
good backup program if this can not be resolved. As the
old saying goes: "You get what you paid for".
Thanks for willing to help. Maybe you have a better idea
of what the problem is.

Willit,
yes it does check all the files that are in the folders
but it doesn't actually back them up. If I do the backup
and then open the backup file to simulate a restore it
does not contain the actual files, just the folders. I
don't understand if the files are checked, which I made
sure they were the utility should back them up.

I have used it and I agree "Weak at best". What I don't
like is it's a cumulative file like system restore and I
always worry that it will corrupt. It also keeps growing
and growing.

What are your settings. Are you doing Copy or what type. Hope it's copy.
