Backup to multiple target files

I purchased a 100 Gig. drive that is preformatted in FAT32. My Source is
NTFS. When I run the XP Backup it fails at around 4 gig with an error that
that the file has reached the maximum size of a FAT32 file and that I should
format the drive in NTFS. Problem is that this Seagate USB drive cannot be
formatted.
Is there a switch or option on XP Backup to create multiple files on the
target drive as needed?

"cannot be formatted" because there is data on it, or because of some
limitation?

Format is not an option for the device properties so I suspect it's a
limitation of the hardware. I'm away from home at this time so can't get more
details. Just thought an easy workaround would be to have the BU spanned
across multiple files like in the old floppy days.

You can use PartitionMagic 8 to format the drive, most likely.

I don't know how to get Windows to backup into multiple files. However,
using Norton Ghost, it's easy. You simply use the following syntax, with the
'640' being the size of the chunks you'd like.

When starting Ghost (from DOS)

ghost.exe -split=640 -auto

This will start ghost, telling it to create the image in 640 MB chunks,
automatically naming each chunk.
