Backup to different drive

I have a fairly new computer with Windows XP Home Edition. It has a Nero 6.0
CD DVD disk drive which I have been using to backup my files monthly. I use
Verbatim CD-RW 16X-24X disks which hold 650MB. It is a slow process, because
I have to use several disks to contain all the info I want to back up from
C:\ drive. Can I obtain the same results by backing up to D:\ drive without
risking too much? Any thoughts?

Thanks,

Duncan

I believe it is a partition of the drive. The two are referred to as Local
Disk (C:) and Local Disk (D:)

You can't easily tell in my computer.
look here.
start>run>diskmgmt.msc

It doesn't really matter. Up to you to save to removable media or hard drive
space.

Yes, it does say "Partition" at start>run>diskmgmt.msc.
I assume I am running significant risk to back these files up to D:
Can you suggest any high speed disks with greater capacity than 650MB using
my Nero 6? Or is there another reasonably priced external device that will
do the trick? It would be great if I could get something to store 5 to 10GB
of data.

dvdrw or more likely an external hard drive

If you are using Windows XP to copy files to that CD-RW you're stuck. But
if you use Nero, EZ CD Creator or some other 3rd party burning software and
your CD DVD burning drive will burn DVDs you can get about 6 times more data
on a DVD as on a CD.

If not you might consider buying a USB external hard drive. They're getting
cheaper all the time. I have 2, an 80GB and a 200GB. The beauty of these
is not only their capacity but with USB 2.0 you can copy/move stuff almost
as fast as on an internal hard drive.

I use DriveImage 7.0 and keep 3 different hard drive images on my 200GB
drive. On each new backup/image I overwrite the oldest of the 3. This has
several advantages. Being external I have them powered through a separate
power strip which I leave off most of the time to protect that data from
viruses, etc. I only power them up when I need them. And each drive also
has its own power switch so I can turn on the power strip to power up my
printer, my scanner, etc, with the hard drives still off. Then flip the
drives' power switches on only when I need them.

I understand DriveImage has been taken over by Ghost?

I use my 80GB USB drive for straight storage that's not in a compacted form.
I also back up my Quicken banking data there.
