"Backup" error

Attempting to use the Windows Backup utility. Having the back up saved to my
external hard drive. It gets about 1/4 of the way through and comes up with
this error:

"You have either run out of space or the backup file is too large for this
disk. Note: if this disk is formatted with FAT32, the maximum possible size
for the backup file is limited to 4 GB.

The backup operation will stop."

Well I know there is plenty of space on the external and suspect the problem
lies with the "Note" as the backup file size is about 4GB when the operation
stops. So what does this actually mean and how do I get around it?

Hi,

I can't help you here I'm afraid but could you say how you obtained the Back
up utility as XP Home does not include it in its package?

good luck with your enquiries.

No, that's not correct. Backup is installed automatically on XP
Professional, but not on XP Home. However it comes with both. If you have
the complete XP Home CD, find backup on the CD, in \ValueAdd\MSFT\NTBACKUP
and install it yourself by doubleclicking the file ntbackup.msi.

If you don't have an XP CD, you can download ntbackup.msi at
http://www.onecomputerguy.com/software/ntbackup.msi Also see

I am running XP Media Addition which someone indicated to me is similar to
Professional. Can't admit to knowing the differences, just noticed that the
program is there under the >>Accesories >>System Tools yet doesn't work as
advertised...anyone???
