Backup - disk image

Bill

In win98 I used the windows backup facility but reading
the community pages, disk image is mentioned. I now have
xp home sp1 Is taking a disk image safer than using the
included back-up ntbackup.msi even for a non techie? Disk
Image 7 has varying reviews excellent and ugh. Any other
suggestions
Thanks

A disk image is just that! It is a special file where the entire configured
hard drive contents are stored. Usually used to duplicate a hard drive.
One disadvantage, you may not be able to restore only one file at a time.
The image restore will revert your hard drive back to the time when the
image was taken, thus any files created after the image may be lost.

As for the ntbackup.msi, it does not take a complete and full backup. If
you want to take a complete backup, then look for BackupMyPC.

To me there's no comparison, go with Drive Image. Pick up a 2nd hard drive,
they're cheap and you can make occasional images to it. I personally like
Drive Image 2002 (comes with DI 7), I just don't feel comfortable with
making an image of XP while I'm running the OS. The backup software that
comes with XP requires that you first reinstall XP in order to restore the
backup.
