Backup and Restore error

I receive an error when I try to backup or restore back to a previous point.
I was able to do a backup the first day I used the Vista home premium
version. Since then I get an error:

A shadow copy could not be created for the following reason.

The writer experienced a transient error. If the backup process is retried,
the error may not reoccur.

I am trying to backup to another system running Windows 2000 with over 300
GB of space available. I had setup an automatic backup and that failed. If I
try to do a manual backup it fails with the same error. I tried to go back
and do a restore to the first day I got the new O/S, but I receive the same
error when I try to restore. I wanted a backup of my files and was able to
copy all the files I wanted over to my other system.

I also noticed that I cannot get any information about my new PC from the
Windows Management Information tool, but I can get information about the
other systems in my network. I don't know if these are related, but that it
was worth mentioning. The error I receive with the tool is:

Can't collect information
Cannot access the Windows Management Instrumentation software. Windows
Management files may be moved or missing.

I was able to see this information on the first day also and I just noticed
I can't see this information recently, I don't know how long it has not been
available.

Please let me know if there are any ideas to resolve my issues.

Thanks to any and all assistance with this problem.

Try disabling any antivirus software you have running--these can sometimes
interfere with backup tools.

If that doesn't work, please respond here.
