I am having trouble with my tapedrive/streamer but do not know if it
is a hardware or software problem. Before I do anything drastic, I
would like to try backing up files to a tape cassette using the
Windows software, but I have no idea how to set this up. Can anyone
help, please?

Many thanks
Kate

What is the name of the Windows software program that writes to the tape
cassette?

Just "Windows Backup Utility" (ntbackup.exe?), I think. I have found
an MS article about it, but haven`t installed it from the Win XP disk
yet, as one of the things I need to know first is : can it be used to
back up to a tapedrive?

Thanks for the response
Kate

Go to Microsoft.com and search for 'tape backup' Info there you may need.

Thank you for the tip. I have found an article which says that
Windows Backup Utility will save to a tapedrive, so, if tonight`s
backup fails again with my usual software, I shall install the Windows
software and try again. If that also fails, I shall know that it is
either the drive itself which is faulty (or needs a clean) or the
media.
