Background

I am having trouble changing the background of my desktop. From the
properties menu the background tab displayed, "Color" is the only option I
can change. The "Background" photo menu cannot be scrolled and i cannot
choose any of the Backgrounds that are in the menu. The menu is completly
unresponsive to any thing i try to do to it with the mouse, right click, left
click, those don't do anything. Right click bring's up the "whats this" menu
and that doesn't help at all. Above the menu is the "Background" menu title
(its writen right above the inopperative menu) stays that half colored almost
transparent text color while the "Colors" option on the page is the regular
color and i can adjust background color i just cant change it to any picture.
I any one can help I'd really appreciate it

Are you sure you actually have a selection of photos to choose from? Or that
they are in the correct location (normally the Windows folder)....however it
gives you an option to "Browse...." and find whatever picture you like.

The drop down list lists files specifically in the Windows folder, I
believe, or in My Pictures or one of those....

Did you remove malware? Have a virus?

First, make sure the computer is completely clean (because if it isn't,
doing the display repairs won't work):

You don't have to go through all the procedures if you think your computer
isn't infected, but it would be wise to at least run Ad-aware and Spybot.

Assuming that the machine is clean, go to the Display applet in Control
Panel and look on the Desktop tab. Click on Customize Desktop, and then
click on the Web tab. You will see that there are checkmarks next to "My
Current Home Page" and probably "Lock Desktop Items". Uncheck these,
Apply/OK out.

Also see:

If you can't enable desktop backgrounds after a virus, MVP Kelly Theriot has
a fix. Look under Wallpaper-Desktop-Disable Changing here:

http://www.kellys-korner-xp.com/xp_w.htm

If Display tabs are missing, run Kelly's registry edit on line 285,
right-hand side "Restore all display tabs".

Hi Tigh! I have been having the same issue as you and can't seem to get
anyone's advice to work. Let me know if you get something to work.
