background sound issues

Have a Toshiba Satelite Model A15S157 with XP loaded.
When the system comes up and the volume is set at a
comfortable level, approimately every 15 seconds there is
a sound of a phone ringing in the background which comes
through with normal use and also when system is utilized
for CD use. Internet connection is DSL through the NIC
card. Does anyone know what may be causing this problem?

Have you checked in Sounds and Devices to see one of the options there has
that particular sound assigned to it?
